Adventure Sail® Day Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association (CIWSA) is hosting Adventure Sail® Day for girls ages 9-14 who are interested in sailing. Mystic Ocean Adventures, operators of the tall ship Mystic Whaler, is proud to be working with CIWSA, along with the Channel Islands. Maritime Museum (CIMM) and the Channel Islands Yacht Club (CIYC) to provide a full-day of female empowerment, history, and sailing! The goal of the Adventure Sail® Day is to introduce young girls to new experiences on the water and to female role models in the maritime industry. The day’s program will include the history of women in sailing, teamwork and chain of command aboard a tall ship, sensing the wind and other sailing basics, environmental stewardship, opportunities to continue sailing, and potential maritime careers. As they arrive Saturday morning, each girl receives a goody bag, sailing-related swag, and a commemorative t-shirt. They will spend the morning in three short programs at CIMM, the Mystic Whaler, and CIYC. In the afternoon, they will apply what they’ve learned and go sailing. Most will sail aboard the tall ship Mystic Whaler, and others will sail aboard private sailboats with volunteer skippers and crews. After sailing, CIYC will host a buffet lunch including a debrief of the day and ideas for the future. Throughout the day participants will interact with women recreational sailors and women who work in the marine or science world. This is a free event, graciously funded by CIWSA.

This was very popular last time we did it and is appropriate for the warm weather. The Chief of Police from Oxnard PD (Jason Benites) will provide the program, it will be about their new Drone First Responder Program!
The Oxnard Police Department (OPD) is expanding its drone program to include "drone as first responder" capabilities. This means drones will be dispatched to emergency scenes to provide real-time aerial information, potentially improving response times and situational awareness. The program, backed by a five-year, $2 million contract with Brinc Drones, will deploy drones equipped with cameras and other sensors to assist with various incidents, including search and rescue, crime scene documentation, and hazardous material situations.

William Lockhart ObituaryWilliam Charles Lockhart William Charles Lockhart, 63, of Ventura County, passed away on August 17, 2025. Known for his charm, attention to detail, and big heart, William brought joy and warmth to all who knew him. He worked as a supervisor atbLT Generators in Woodland Hills—a job he truly loved. His work brought him into the homes of many well-known individuals across Malibu and Los Angeles, and his perfectionism, professionalism, and warm personality made him a favorite among clients. William had a unique sense of style-always meticulously matching from head to toe, down to his underwear His wife, Jamie, proudly matched his color schemes every day, a small but loving ritual that highlighted their deep bond. Fulfilling a dream for Jamie, William purchased a boat in the Channel Islands Harbor where they made their home—a Saturdays were reserved for breakfast at the Boatyard in Ventura Harbor, where he and Jamie shared laughs and good times with the regulars. Sundays were for the Hollywood Beach Café-always in the same seat at the counter, a simple tradition that brought him great joy. William's life was full of love, laughter, and intention. He lived on his own terms, brought joy to others, and leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever. |
